Warm weather has finally hit the midwest once again and we couldn’t be happier about it!
Spring is the perfect time to refresh your home and complete those long-overdue tasks. We have an indoor and outdoor cleaning checklist that will give your space the refresh it needs —ready to get started?
Inside your home, you should…
1. Replace your filters.
Can’t remember the last time you checked your air or water filters? That probably means it’s time to replace them with new ones. Not sure which one you need? Talk to our experts at Godwin Hardware — they can help!
2. Clean your shower and faucet heads.
Say bye-bye to the calcium deposits that have been sitting on your shower and faucet heads for far too long! Cleaning them is far easier than you think and will make you feel much better, too. Fill a ziplock bag with two tablespoons of baking soda and a couple of drops of dish soap. Next, add enough white vinegar to cover the shower or faucet head and secure the bag around the head with a rubber band. Leave it to sit for a half hour, scrub the calcium away, and you’re done!
3. Test your smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors.
This one could save your family’s life in case of an emergency. Use the test button on your detectors and replace batteries as necessary.
4. Scrub your walls and baseboards and fix old holes.
Have some scuff marks on your baseboards or walls that you’ve been ignoring for far too long? Spring is the time to take care of them. Take a little soap and water and go around your home, scrubbing away the dirt of the past. While you’re at it, take stock of old nail holes that need to be refilled. Stop by Godwin Hardware, grab yourself some nail filler, and take care of them now!
Outside your home, you should…
5. Clean out your gutter.
It’s time to get rid of the old leaves that have clogged your gutters since last fall. Dig out your ladder and some work gloves to accomplish this task. Too big of a job to accomplish on your own? Hire someone to do it for you!
6. Wash your windows.
This might be another spring cleaning item that you might want to hire someone else to do. You can take care of the interior side of your windows yourself with some glass cleaner and microfiber cloth, then let the professionals take care of the exterior windows.
7. Clean your grill.
Time to scrub the remnants of last summer away to make room for this summer’s bbq! Take a wire brush to the inside to remove any rust and a glass cleaner to the outside to make it shine.
8. Get your garden prepped.
Want to grow your own fruits and vegetables this summer? It’s important to prep your soil during the spring. Add manure or compost to the soil to get it ready. Want to get a head start on your plants? Start your seeds inside, letting them sit in a sunny, warm place.
