DIY Towel Holder

January 2, 2020

Have you ever wanted to make something, but didn’t know where to begin? In this series, you’ll see easy DIY ideas using products available right in our hardware store so you can make it yourself!

Next up is a project that will help you ‘clean up good’. It’s our DIY paper towel holder! Completed using only two key components and 7 steps, this simple DIY is an easy way to bring a modern twist to your kitchen!

Supplies:

  • Fast-setting Concrete
  • A Wooden Dowel
  • A clean, round, food container (i.e. Whipped Cream Container)
  • Stir stick
  • 2 screws
  • Screwdriver
  • Drill with large drill bit
  • Sandpaper

Step by Step Instructions

1. Begin by cutting your wooden dowel down to be 15” long. You can achieve this by using a circular saw or a very sharp knife. Please use these power tools and sharp objects with care and at your own risk!

2. Drill a hole in one end of your dowel, slightly smaller in size than your screw and perpendicular to your dowel. Screw your screw into this hole using the screwdriver. Repeat this step on the other side of your dowel

3. Mix together approximately 2 cups of your concrete, following the instructions on your bag/box.

4. Pour the concrete into your food container and insert your dowel, screw side down, into the concrete. Level off with the stir stick or by ‘smacking’, for lack of a better word, container on the ground to self-level.

5. Let dry for time indicated on your bag/box. We let ours dry for approximately 48 hours, just to be safe.

6. Remove concrete base from the food container by cutting it open with sharp scissors or clippers. Sand concrete so the bottom is flat and there are no rough edges, especially along the top.

7. Slide a new paper towel roll on it and be proud of your work!
