The Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) map at right shows the highest levels of arsenic in Michigan by county. Not every home will have the highest levels.
The federal government's Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) guidelines state that acceptable levels are 10 parts per billion (ppb). According to the map, the highest levels in Kent County, for example, are at least twice that at 20 ppb-50 ppb.
